Justin Bales

Hi. I come from a small village in south east England. After university I went backpacking for nine months. I couldn’t visit Japan because, at that time, it was outside a backpacker’s budget. So I decided to train as an English teacher and get a job in Japan. Originally I planned to stay just one year, but 25 years later, I am still here! I first lived in Fukuoka-ken and then went travelling around the world for a year. Then I lived in Shiga-ken before travelling again. I’ve now lived in Kyoto for about 20 years. I enjoy travelling and cooking and I am very good at supermarket shopping!

Kris Evans

Hi, my name is Kris.  I’m from Birmingham in England.  I have been living in Japan for over 20 years now (ouch!). I have 2 boys, who are 9 and 13 years old.  My youngest son, Noah, is very loud & boisterous.  My eldest, Rick, is more serious and careful.

In my free time, I do a lot of carpentry and gardening.  Over the last few years I have gotten hooked on agaves. (They’re Mexican plants.)

I really enjoy teaching English, it’s a great job.  I hope that I can make your studies both fun and rewarding.  I look forward to meeting you soon.

Judith Clancy

I became interested in Japan when I was just a child and heard stories told by my elementary school classmate’s father who used to travel to Asia on business. This interest brought me to Japan decades later. Japan still fascinates me regarding design, work ethic, cultural heritage, a devotion to tradition, and quality of life.
Since coming to Japan, I have taught in several universities, written several books and enjoy teaching.
