About 20 years ago I took a trip around the South of England. I rented a car in London. On the first day, I went to Stonehenge and then continued on to Bath. On the second day, I spent the morning in Bath before driving through the Cotswolds to Oxford. I didn’t have time to see Stratford-Upon-Avon, unfortunately, but the Cotswolds were very beautiful. The second night was in Oxford so in the evening I walked around the University buildings and the next morning I went to see some of the famous sights. In the afternoon, I returned to London and dropped off the rental car. After that I spent two days in London. I visited the Tower of London, took a Thames river cruise, and saw Big Ben, Westminster and Buckingham palace. The next day I went up on the London Eye for great views of London, and went to the British Museum. The great thing about London is that the museums are free for general entry (but I was shocked recently to see that nowadays it costs about 5000 yen to visit the Tower of London!)
If you can drive then Liverpool, The Lake District, The Peak District, York and the Yorkshire Dales, and Durham are all great places to visit.
And, of course, if you have time, Edinburgh in Scotland is also very popular with tourists.
